The 2007 Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award has been awarded to a Russia-based non-governmental organisation, Ecodefense, for its work to raise awareness of the Baltic Sea’s fragile ecosystem.

The prize, awarded by the Swedish Foreign Ministry, was won by Ecodefense for its work in broadening knowledge among the general public, government departments, authorities, politicians and companies in a region with severe environmental problems.

The award was presented by Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carlsson, as part of World Water Week, currently being held here in Stockholm.
