Sweden Says Russia Broke Trade Promises

Sweden has called on the European Union to take up what are described as unfair trade practices by Russia.

Trade Minister Sten Tolgfors tells Reuters that he feels that direct trade discussions with Moscow are no longer productive. He says he has written to European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, accusing the Russians of failing to live up to promises on timber tariffs.

Tolgfors says Moscow’s actions could hurt its chances of joining the World Trade Organization.
