The United States has clinched victory in one of women’s golf’s most coveted tournaments, retaining the Solheim Cup, played this year at Halmstad, on the west coast of Sweden.

The US team beat the Europeans in both the singles and team competitions. Final scores: Europe 12, US 16.

In other sports news, Sweden’s Susanna Kallur came to within 2 hundredths of a second of setting a new Swedish record in winning the 100 meters hurdles at a the Berlin Golden League meet at the weekend.

Kallur’s time of 12.49 seconds was her personal best, and came as a boost after her disappointing fourth place at the recent World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan.
