Shoplifting on the Increase
Goods valued at some 1.3 billion US dollars were stolen from stores in Sweden in 2006.
According to data published by the Swedish Trade Federation, the value of products stolen in Sweden’s shops has increased by half a billion dollars over the past ten years.
The federation says the marked increase in shoplifting suggests organised gangs account for greater amounts of the theft. The most popular targets for shop-lifters are meat, coffee, cleaning products, confectionary and batteries.
