Child Abuse on the Increase

Published måndag 17 september 2007 kl 12.41

The number of reported cases of serious abuse of young children continues to rise, according to report from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.

In the first six months of the year, police received 717 reports of cases involving abuse on children six years old or younger, a 15 precent increase from the same period last year.

The council says part of the rise, which continues a trend going back several years, can be explained by medical personnel and teaching staff at schools and daycare centers are more aware of violence within the home.
