Reaction to Autumn Budget

Finance Minister Anders Borg presents the budget to parliament

Swedish newspapers continue to be dominated by reaction to Thursday’s presentation of the government’s Autumn budget.

Much of the reaction has been negative, with parts of the media and the opposition concentrating on the cutbacks to those on state benefits.

Opposition Social Democratic economic spokesman Pär Nuder called the budget ”brutal”.

But many of the center-right papers have been positive in their assessments... with Sweden’s largest broadsheet ”Dagens Nyheter” praising Finance Minister Anders Borg for making what it calls necessary changes to the labor market while the economy is still in good shape. But the newspaper also adds that everyone should make sure they have at least 7500 US dollars in the bank in case they get sick or lose their jobs, because they will need it as benefits are cut.
