Demonstrations in Sweden for Burma

Published fredag 28 september 2007 kl 12.28

Demonstrations are being held in Sweden against the Burmese military regime’s violent reaction to pro-democracy protesters

Several people were shot dead earlier this week as the military opened fire on demonstrators.

A demontration is being held in Stockholm Friday to to support the democratic movement in Burma. Most of Sweden’s political parties are participating, along with other organisations. Several Swedish websites have also turned their homepages red and many Swedes are joining in the campaign to wear red shirts Friday to oppose the violence in Burma.

The Swedish Foreign Ministry is warning Swedes from travelling to Burma. Because of the ”current troubles” there, the foreign ministry recommends in a press release that Swedes refrain from ”unnecessary travel” to Burma.
