Swedish PM meets French president

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, left, and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, at the Elysee Palace in Paris

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt met French President Nicolas Sarkozy, for talks on Wednesday, with Europe and the environment topping the agenda.

While the two leaders enjoyed cordial talks on reaching an international climate change agreement by 2009, the pair failed to tackle differences regarding Turkish entry to the European Union.

Sarkozy repeated his predecessor, Jacques Chirac’s position, that Turkey was not part of Europe, while Reinfeldt warned of the dangers of refusing entry to a country wanting to join the 27 member bloc.
