Sweden Prepares for EU Presidency
Global warming, the Baltic Sea and expansion. Those are the 3 priorities of the Swedish government ahead of its upcoming 6-month presidency of the European Union.
Europe Minister Cecilia Malmström says they are already in negotiations with the French and Czech governments, who will hold the EU presidency before Sweden, to try to co-ordinate policies and goals.
The Swedish presidency, which starts in July 2009, could be challenging for the government, as it’s expected that the EU’s new Lisbon Treaty will just have been implemented, meaning there could be plenty of practical problems to be solved.
