In today’s half hour from the Swedish capital, we’ll be looking on this United Nation’s Day at plans to reform the world body and we’ll check out Swedish forces on their way to peace-keeping duties in Afghanistan.

We’ll also hear some brand new Swedish music inspired by life at the bottom of the sea.

In early November 350 Swedish soldiers are being sent to northern Afghanistan, to replace the force serving there with the International Security Assistance Force.

George Wood visited the unit during a role-playing military exercise in preparation for their mission:

Today on this United Nations’ Day, many are once again asking how effective the world body is to the demands of our times. Sweden and three other nations on as many different continents have presented a reform package to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. Known as the Four Nation Initiative, this is the result of a two-year effort, as we hear from Azariah Kiros:
