Bildt Calls for More Active EU Global Role
On a visit to Athens, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said Wednesday that there is a strong demand for the European Union to play a more active role in global affairs.
Bildt, also a former Swedish prime minister, is seen as a potential candidate to succeed Javier Solana as the EU’s foreign policy chief. Under the new EU reform treaty the position would be expanded.
The one time international community envoy to the Balkans also said there is a need to move Serbia forward towards reaching some sort of consensus on Kosovo.
