Swedish Peacekeepers to Leave Bosnia-Herzegovina
The Swedish peacekeeping force in Bosnia-Herzegovina is to leave the country in 2008.
Over 7500 Swedes have participated in peace-keeping endeavours in the area since 1993. Lieutenant Colonel Mikael Smedin told news agency TT that the decision is a political one. He said that while the area is comparatively stable and the need for a military presence is not as obvious as earlier, he would still have liked to see Sweden there for another year.
The 24-strong Swedish unit included in the EU’s elite force, EUFOR will be home by the 20th of April at the latest.
