Russians Ignore Boom at Northern Ikea

Published måndag 29 oktober 2007 kl 13.23

The hoped-for swarm of rich Russians have not crossed the border to shop at the new giant IKEA department store in Haparanda-Torneå in the far north of Sweden along the Finnish border.

However, Swedes and and Finns have come in expected numbers to the one-year old furniture and household goods store.

Local authorities say the hoped-for new jobs have materialized and other companies and stores flocking to the area have brought an economic boom to the region - long known for loosing workers to Stockholm and Helsinki in the south.
