Swedish Online Bookmaker Released On Bail
The Swedish head of the online bookmakers Unibet has been released on bail after being arrested in the Netherlands and extradited to France.
Petter Nylander was arrested at Schiphol airport after French authorities issued a warrant for his arrest for breaking French gambling laws and sponsoring a team in the Tour de France.
The French say Unibet’s gambling website is illegal because, just like Sweden, France has a gambling monopoly and independent bookmakers aren’t allowed. The cycling sponsorship was seen as advertising for the website, which is also illegal.
But a French Court decided to release Nylander on bail for 200 000 Euros Wednesday night. When he is due back in the French Court hasn’t yet been decided.
