Port Breath Tests Illegal?
Breath tests on truck drivers as they leave ferries at Ystad Port in Southern Sweden are to be stopped, even though over 130 drivers have been caught over the drink driving limit.
The National Police Board says the tests should be stopped because they are carried out by private security guards and not the police. The breath tests are voluntary, but the Police Board says that only the Police have the right to carry out such tests.
The scheme in Ystad in the far south of Sweden had proven so successful that port authorities in Stockholm started a similar scheme just last week.
