Forsberg (r) training on Monday

Swedish ice hockey star Peter ”Foppa” Forsberg retired from a training session with country team mates, telling reporters his foot was again causing discomfort.

The Philadelphia Flyers star now looks doubtful for the remainder of the season, sparking fears this could mark the end of Forsberg’s career.

In football, one of Sweden’s most successful figures in the beautiful game, Nils Liedholm, has died at the age of 85.

Liedholm was in Sweden’s squad that took silver in the 1958 World Cup, and he went on to win the Italian league six times, four times as a player and twice as a trainer.
