Agency miss allows failed asylum seekers work

Published fredag 9 november 2007 kl 10.44

A report by Swedish Radio News reveals asylum seekers who have had their asylum applications rejected by Sweden’s Migration Board, are able to continue working with a certificate from the National Tax Board.

Unsuccessful asylum seekers who should have left Sweden, are able to continue working, although at their own risk, if they renew their so-called A-Skattesedel with tax authorities.

A lack of communication between the two agencies has created the anomaly, with the Tax Board arguing their responsibilities do not include running checks on whether immigrants have had asylum applications refused.
