Swedes Trapped in Gaza

Palestinians trapped by the border closure

The TT news agency reports that four children with Swedish citizenship and their mother, who has permanent residence in Sweden, have been trapped in Gaza since June.

The Israeli authorities, who closed off Gaza after fighting between Hamas and Fatah, are refusing to let the Swedes leave the enclave. A spokesman for the Swedish foreign ministry says they have helped around 50 people with Swedish connections leave Gaza, but they have no idea why this particular group has been stopped.

He says a dialog continues with the Israeli authorities.
