Slow Wind Power Development
Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren wants wind energy to be developed faster in Sweden.
He tells the newspaper “Sydsvenska Dagbladet” that the application approval process has to be speeded up. The TT news agency reports that only around one percent of Swedish electricity comes from wind power, and the renewal source of energy is being developed slower here than in the rest of the European Union.
The industry organization Swedish Wind Power is pessimistic, saying the government’s will is greater than its ability to deliver. The organization wants to limit the opportunities for opponents of wind power to appeal approved applications, as well as to give more resources to the courts and agencies involved in the approval process.
