Police detain protesters in St. Petersburg

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has expressed concern over a crackdown by Russian police on opposition protests ahead of this weekend’s parliamentary elections.

The Swedish news agency TT reports that Reinfeldt is also concerned Sunday’s poll would not be carried out fairly.

The prime minister questioned how the vote could be fair when opposition politicians were arrested and put in jail.
