Christmas Hugs for Sale

Red Cross President Bengt Westerberg gives a hug

This year Swedish Christmas shoppers will be able to buy something new, hugs from the Red Cross.

“Hugs for the Lonely” is the theme for this year’s Swedish Red Cross Christmas collection. The organization’s communications director tells AFP that the idea is to break the isolation felt by many people, so they can feel close and connected for Christmas.

The Red Cross hopes to raise four million US dollars during the three week drive that starts on the first of December. The hugs will cost about three dollars each.
