Third of Sweden’s Wealth Owned by Elite
A third of Sweden’s wealth is owned by only one percent of the population, that’s according to a new report.
The Research Institute of Industrial Economics found that the top one percent of Swedish people own just over 30 percent of the country’s private capital, amounting to almost 300 billion US dollars.
The new figures show an increase from 19 percent ownership previously quoted in official data from the central statistics office, Statistics Sweden, Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter reports.
Neither report includes those who have registered their business abroad. If they too, were included the figure is estimated to rise to well over 40 percent or 460 billion dollars.
