Supermarket Sells Out of Date Meat

Published onsdag 5 december 2007 kl 13.06

Swedish Public Service TV, SVT, have uncovered widespread re-labelling of out of date meat in one of Sweden’s largest supermarket chains.

In their flagship investigative programme they went to 4 supermarkets in the outskirts of Stockholm and placed small labels on the back of packs of minced beef whose sell by date was about to pass. The next day they went back and found the same packets still on sale with SVT’s labels still on the back, but this time the sell by date had been changed.

The supermarket’s CEO says the practice is totally unacceptable and that they are now to step up checks and controls in their supermarkets to make sure it doesn’t happen. It’s illegal to change the sell by date on food in Sweden.
