More Swedes Shape Up

Published torsdag 6 december 2007 kl 14.11

More and more Swedes are heading for the gym according to a report by the Swedish Sports Confederation.

Since 1998 the number of people visiting the gym more than twice a week has risen by over 60 percent to 3.3 million.

One of the leading gyms in Sweden, Friskis och Svettis, has seen a 10 percent increase in membership just this past year

Men spend more than women on keeping in shape and on average each Swede spends over 300 US dollars a year.

The most popular way of burning those calories is weight training while more traditional sports like table tennis and indoor hockey are becoming less common.
