Bildt: EU Has “Virtual Unity" on Kosovo
Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says all but one of the European Union’s 27 member states are ready to accept independence for the breakaway Serbian province of Kosovo without a U.N. resolution.
Reuters news agency quotes Bildt maintaining there was ”virtual unity” on Kosovo. On Monday the deadline set by Western powers for international mediation efforts expired.
According to Reuters, Bildt did not name the member state which still wanted a U.N. Security Council resolution before accepting a declaration by ethnic Kosovo Albanian leaders expected within weeks.
