Published torsdag 13 december 2007 kl 14.20
Andreas Carlgren

Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren says the EU will carry on in its goal to get a new climate change treaty by 2009, even if the USA isn’t on board.

Speaking at the UN climate change conference in Bali, Carlgren added that attitudes in the USA ARE slowly changing, and that their current position might alter in the future, depending on the outcome of the upcoming presidential election.

Earlier Carlgren had promoted Sweden’s position as a leading country in the fight to cut greenhouse gas emissions. He said that Sweden’s experience shows that it IS possible to reduce emissions without harming economic growth.

Since 1990 the Swedish economy has grown by 44%, at the same time greenhouse gas emissions fell by a total of 8.7%
