Ryanair to pay former PM damages
Irish budget airline Ryanair and former Swedish prime minister Göran Persson have reached an out of court settlement over the payment of damages after Ryanair used Persson’s image in an advertisement without his permission.
Lawyers representing the former prime minister and former Swedish foreign minister, Leila Freivalds, told the AFP news agency the airline had agreed to pay each of the former ministers $US 5,700 in damages.
The award is half what lawyers for Persson and Freivalds had been seeking.
Ryanair used images of Persson and Freivalds in an advertising campaign in February 2006, after a series of crises had hit the Swedish government, over the caption: ”Time to leave the country?”
The pair are to donate the money to charity.
