Three Embassies to Close
The Swedish government has decided to shut down its embassies in Angola, Laos and the Philippines next summer and to replace them by smaller consulates.
Due to financial reasons, Sweden’s Foreign Ministry is currently reshuffling its budget. Countries that are not included by Sweden’s development assistance program automatically loose their Swedish embassies.
Instead, the government has announced it will open or extend its official representations in Afghanistan, Sudan, Belarus and at NATO-headquarters in Brussels.
