Royals Get Subsidy Boost

The Royal Family

Sweden’s royal household will be getting a major increase in its support from the taxpayers next year.

The budget for the royal family is being increased by almost two million dollars, to more than 16 million dollars.

A government spokesman tells the newspaper “Dagens Industri” that there are two main reasons for the increase. Half of the new funds are for increased security, the other half for Crown Princess Victoria’s expanded official responsibilities.

It has been widely speculated that a royal wedding may be on the horizon, but this is not mentioned in the official budget.
