New Spectrum for Mobile Broadband
The Swedish government has decided to allocate frequencies in the band previously used for analog television to telecommunications companies.
It’s expected that the spectrum will be used for mobile broadband and other wireless Internet services. The decision came following negotiations between the Ministry of Culture, which represented the television industry, and the Ministry of Enterprise, reflecting the interests of the telecoms companies.
Both sides have welcomed the decision. The television industry wants access to the newly available frequencies to develop high definition digital channels for the terrestrial network.
Sweden pulled the plug on its final analog television transmitters earlier this year.
