No Extension of Swedish Chad-Mission
Minister of Defense, Sten Tolgfors, has ruled out an extension of the Swedish military mission to Chad.
The 200 Swedish soldiers who are supposed to support international aid workers in the central African state will not stay longer than four months, Tolgfors told reporters in Stockholm.
He added, it was necessary to keep the costs at the current level, as Sweden is still involved in the NATO-led Afghanistan peace-keeping force as well as in the so-called Nordic Battle Group.
Some Swedish politicians have recently urged the government to extend the Chad mission in order to bring stability to the Darfur region.
