Opinion Poll Gap Closing, Slowly

A new opinion poll shows that the governing centre-right coalition government is clawing back at the opinion poll lead currently held by the opposition Social Democrat, Left and Green parties.

While the opposition are still a whopping 17 percentage points in the lead, the gap has shrunk by 2 percentage points since the last survey a month ago. The changes are small however, and are within the range of statistical error.

The party gaining the most support were the Social Democrats with 44 percent of Swedes saying they would vote for them in an election tomorrow. The governing centre right Moderates got 21 percent, up one percentage point on last month’s poll.

The next election is due in September 2010.
