Afghan Refugees Cannot be Sent Back

Published onsdag 5 mars 2008 kl 13.05

The Swedish Migration Court has blocked the extradition of two refugees  to Afghanistan.

The court says the Swedish immigration authorities were wrong to conclude that the situation is safe enough in Afghanistan to return rejected asylum-seekers.

A subsequent report from the United Nations refugee agency that conditions in Afghanistan were far worse failed to influence the immigration authorities here to change their position.

There are around 500 Afghan asylum seekers in Sweden who risk being sent back.
