Sweden Likely to Join NATO Force

Published tisdag 11 mars 2008 kl 09.54

Sweden is likely to join the NATO rapid reaction force after neighboring Finland definitely decided to participate.

Attending an EU meeting in Brussels, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt told reporters that Sweden’s participation in the NATO force was rather a technical than a political question.

According to Bildt, Sweden has to submit its formal decision to NATO by the end of this year. But he expected Swedish troops to join the rapid reaction force as another step in increasing cooperation with NATO.

Sweden is not an official NATO-member but takes part in particular missions, such as in Afghanistan.
