Health Care Top Priority For Swedes

Published onsdag 9 april 2008 kl 10.42

The most burning political issue in Sweden is health care according to the Swedish people. In a new poll, where Swedes were asked to list the most important issues in Sweden today, the welfare state came top with 25 percent of respondents putting it top.

Jobs and employment came second with 22 percent, but that’s down 50 percent compared to the last poll in 2006. Education and the environment came 3rd at 21 percent.

Political scientists say the poll doesn’t come as comfortable reading for the ruling centre-right alliance, who have made jobs their top priority, while health care and the welfare state are traditionally areas where the opposition Social Democrats are strong.
