Criticized Commander Still in Charge of Troops

A Swedish commander who is criticized for not having reported a torture incident in 2003 in Congo has been in charge of Swedish troops in Chad until now.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces the man is now being called back to Sweden. Commander in Chief Håkan Syrén pointed out earlier that he is confident of the commander’s ability to lead the special force.

Previously, Swedish Television (SVT) had reported that a Congolese prisoner was tortured by French soldiers during a joint French-Swedish mission in Congo in 2003.

According to that report, the responsible Swedish commander knew about the incident but failed to inform his superiors about it.
