Apartment rents may be adjusted to the actual request. On Friday, government commissioner Michaël Koch officially presented his proposal for reformed rent legislation in this country.

Koch’s proposal includes the right of private housing associations to put up rents by five percent yearly. By this, the commissioner hopes to contribute to higher rents in attractive areas and lower rents in less attractive areas.

Responsible Minister for Local Government and Financial Markets Mats Odell of the Christian Democrats has already embraced the idea of rents adjusted to the actual request whereas opposition leader Mona Sahlin of the Social Democrats rejected the plan because it would worsen segregation.
