Jail for Parents Forcing Under-aged Marriages?

Published tisdag 22 april 2008 kl 15.54

A Swedish government-appointed study has after 2 years of investigations come out with strong recommendations to stop parents from forcing their young children to travel abroad to get married before the age of 16.

The proposal demands that an adult who is a Swedish citizen or has residency here and has the legal custody of a child could be placed in jail for as long as 2 years if he or she sends the under-aged child 16 abroad to get married in an arranged relationship.
