“Price War" of Unemployment Insurances

Published onsdag 23 april 2008 kl 10.01
Protest against cuts in unemployment benefits in 2007

Amid falling numbers of members, unemployment insurances have started what some already call a “price war” in order to canvass new clients.

Swedish Radio news quotes the heads of two insurances that are eager to underbid each other as saying that this price war was necessary to keep the number of members on a reasonable level.

In 2007, the center-right coalition government had abolished the right to set off membership fees against tax liability. As being a member of unemployment insurances is not obligatory as of today, many people have cancelled their memberships during the previous year.
