Debate Continues over Swedish Military Cut Backs

Published torsdag 24 april 2008 kl 10.47

An open debate continues here in Sweden about more cut backs planned for the  Swedish military - including the closing of more military bases in the country.

Some have argued that as Sweden increases its commitments to foreign peace-keeping efforts along with Nordic colleagues, this demands even bigger cutbacks at home.

However, some of the conscripts complain that even those wanting proper training to become good soldiers and sailers are denied the chance.

Asking where all the military budget disappears these days, they maintain  that they’re allowed only a few days on board a ship in training for future naval duty - or are forced to carry out a week of shooting exercises with only a single bullet - to save money.
