Boy Finds Viking Treasure

Published tisdag 29 april 2008 kl 10.20

Christmas came early for a 9 year old boy and his grandfather out walking on an old battlefield in Southern Sweden.

Alexander Granhof and his grandfather Jens were taking a stroll on the site of the battle of Lund in 1676 when they came across some silver coins which had likely been brought to the surface by a farmer’s plough.

Archaeologists who were called to the site using metal detectors, discovered two clay pots containing more than 7 thousand silver coins dating back to the middle ages. It’s believed to be the largest ever find of silver coins from the period in southern Sweden.
