Older Immigrants Linguistically Isolated

Published fredag 2 maj 2008 kl 11.51

Elderly immigrants and refugees who have not learned Swedish should not be left isolated in old-age homes - according to a Swedish professor at Stockholm’s Karolinksa Institute.

The professor says the problem is getting bigger and bigger with isolated immigrants who can’t speak Swedish or who have forgotten the language .

She adds that  local governments seem to be doing nothing - although they should be able at least with the larger language groups to put people together instead of being left all alone and unable to communicate.
