Global Efforts to Give Legal Rights to the Poor

Sweden and a number of other countries took the initiative to create the  Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor  in 2005  – with a mandate to find ways and means to assure that legal protection and economic power around the world is not the privilege of the few but the right of everyone.

The commission’s 2 chair persons are the former American secretary of state, Madeliene Albright and the president of the Peruvian Institute for Liberty and Democracy – a man who’s visited Stockholm.

Hernando de Soto says that the poor around the world may look as if they own a lot – but that this is illusionary.
