Can Refugees Overcome Psychological Traumas?

Published fredag 30 maj 2008 kl 14.34

Thousands of refugees have arrived in Sweden from Iraq over the past 5 years, many of them not only having to deal with moving to a brand new country, new language, new culture, but many also have terrible memories from their homeland to deal with.

But can people get over the psychological traumas that often come after events like those in Iraq? One of the world’s biggest experts on the mental problems that can affect refugees is Professor Richard Mollica from Harvard Medical School in the US. He is in Sweden to talk about his new book, ”Treating invisible wounds”, and he says people usually do bounce back.
