Forest Fires Rage In Northern Sweden

Published måndag 2 juni 2008 kl 12.54

Fire Rescue services have been working around the clock in Hälsingland in Northern Sweden where forest fires continue to rage and spread.

In some areas, rescue workers evacuated people from their homes as a precaution.

The biggest of the fires in North Western Hälsingland covers an area between 500 and 1,000 hectares.

7 helicopters have been dropping water over the area while mechanical diggers have dug trenches in an effort to halt the fire speading any further.

The hot weather in Sweden has left the ground extremely dry and strong winds haven’t helped.

Rescue workers have warned that the forest fires could spread to central and southern regions.
