Ignored Warnings Over World Food Shortages

Published tisdag 3 juni 2008 kl 12.17

Referring to the United Nations conference on the world’s food crisis now underway in Rome, Swedish UN officials here claim that UN agencies and non-government organizations have long been warning government leaders over the growing threats.

Listing the reasons for the soaring food prices and shortages leading to violent protests and deaths around the world, the officials here blame the deafness of world leaders, the use of grains and cereals for automobile fuels instead of food, and worsening climatic conditions with droughts and floods destroying crops and some nations cancelling their badly-need exports of rice and wheat.
