Swedish Navy Ready to Fight Pirates

The Swedish navy says it’s prepared to send ships to the Horn of Africa to fight piracy there.

This comes after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution allowing UN member countries to enter Somalia’s territorial waters to help stop the illegal capture of shipping in the area.

In its response to a government query on the issue, the Swedish military says it can send two corvettes and a support ship to the region in September or October for a three month tour.

Last year 25 ships were attacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia.
