New Citizens Honored on National Day

Published fredag 6 juni 2008 kl 05.30
New citizens honored in a ceremony at Stockholm City Hall

Sweden’s National Day festivities include special ceremonies to honor those who have become citizens here within the past year.

June 6 first became Sweden’s National Day, and a public holiday, in 2005. Before that it was celebrated as Swedish Flag Day.

In cities and towns around the country the festivities include ceremonies for new citizens. In Gothenburg some 2300 are taking part in the celebration, with similar events at Stockholm City Hall and, this year for the first time, in Malmö, where the ceremony will be held at the Opera House.
