Joint Swedish-Norwegian Air Force

Published onsdag 11 juni 2008 kl 09.53
Sten Tolgfors

Nordic neighbors Sweden and Norway might be on the way to create a joint air force. Swedish Minister of Defense Sten Tolgfors has proposed collective air bases including joint training, maintenance and equal ammunition.

Speaking to Swedish Radio news, Tolgfors pointed out that defense costs could be reduced significantly by merging the two countries’ air forces on some fields.

Critics maintain though that a joint air force could cause trouble as Norway is a member of NATO whereas Sweden remains a militarily unbound nation.
