Support for Current NATO Cooperation
According to a new poll, two-thirds of Swedes approve of the current level of cooperation with the western military alliance NATO.
The survey, conducted by Synovate Sweden on behalf of the newspaper “Dagens Nyheter”, indicates that only 15 percent of people here would like to reduce links with NATO.
However, the poll also reflects the results of a similar recent survey from Gothenburg University that showed a clear majority of Swedes are against NATO membership. According to Synovate, only 22 percent favor joining the alliance.
On Tuesday Defence Minister Sven Tolgfors proposed merging the Swedish Air Force with that of NATO member Norway.
